Overview

Energy Engineering (EE) is a global engineering, inspection, asset management, auditing and expediting business, working in the energy sector.
EE has a global array of customers with projects needing to be resourced from EE registered engineering professionals.

The Challenge

Before Red River’s involvement with EE, they were largely running their business with MS Excel spreadsheets and office tools with little or no automated processes.
Unfortunately, their two previous attempts with other software companies to develop an ERP system weren’t successful, resulting in a large outlay of money and a system that would not even load.
In essence the system:

  • Onboards and manages clients
  • Manages enquiries
  • Has matching algorithms to rapidly find appropriate resources to enquiries
  • (based on skills, experience, qualifications, distance, reviews and costs)
  • Runs projects and jobs
  • Manages and onboards engineering resources
  • Analyses CVs
  • Manages assignments and visits
  • Manages availability
  • Creates and distributes proposals
  • Manages time and expenses
  • Manages works and purchase orders
  • Creates and manages contracts and work rates
  • Generates invoices
  • Generates reports and data warehouse

There were many technical challenges to be solved in this project such as the advanced resource matching, automated invoice generation, enquiry scope tracking, profitability calculation and workflow automation.

The Process

We undertook a brief scoping project which led to a development project aimed at creating web application, customer and resource portals which designed to capture and automate all aspects of EE’s operations, finance and business development

The Solution

We initially looked at the specification (over-complicated, not written with humans or automation in mind) and realised that help was needed to analyse their processes, provide advice on workflow and automation and to simplify their ideas.
After embarking on a scoping, design and costing project we presented an extensive roadmap for phased delivery in a few weeks.

Within six months we were live with migrated data.

During the development project we cracked some of the difficult technical issues such as engineer selection, using machine learning algorithms and complex matching to identify the right skill sets, experience, profitability and performance.
The system has been operational for over a since Q3 2023 and manages all enquiries, contracts, finance, jobs, proposals, resources, timesheets, invoices, analytics and reporting.

What an amazing achievement. Please throw a dinner party for the whole project team to say thank you!
